About Us
The Old Sawmill Log Co is part of our parent business Urban Forestry (Bury St Edmunds) Ltd. The name of the business comes from the postal address at our yard in Ingham, near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, which was once a sawmill..
Our Services
Urban Forestry (Bury St Edmunds) Ltd has been trading since 1992 and was originally a forestry and tree surgery company which specialised in planting trees. Over the years the company has changed and developed, and through this diversification we now carry out lots of different services. These include:
- Arboriculture (tree work)
- Arboricultural tree reports and consultancy
- Specialists in the care of veteran and ancient trees
- Woodland work
- Award winning soft landscaping
- Hard landscaping
- Fencing
- Large and small scale tree planting schemes
- Play equipment installers
- Approved contractors for multiple trade bodies
Our Ethos
Our intention is to supply people with great firewood in the Bury St Edmunds and West Suffolk area, from wood that is recycled from our tree surgery business, or from locally managed woodlands in East Anglia. We want to keep the miles that the logs travel to a minimum, and to provide a friendly, reliable service.
A large proportion of kiln dried firewood bought online originally comes from Eastern Europe. Our wood is cut and processed at our yard at the Old Sawmill in Ingham, it is then kiln dried in situ using waste wood from our tree surgery business. We think this is a more sustainable way of supplying firewood, because your logs are:
- From woodlands responsibly managed in East Anglia.
- Utilises waste and recycled wood from our tree surgery operations.
- Kiln dried in Suffolk, rather than Eastern Europe, using waste wood.
- Utilising energy from the kiln drying process to also heat our office and dry our work clothes and equipment.
- Not transporting logs and timber hundreds of miles, burning lots of diesel fuel.
- Helping reduce the potential to spread harmful pest and diseases which can hitch hike on transported timber and packaging.
- Employing local arborists and foresters in the rural economy
We’re proud that we can genuinely say that we plant more trees than we fell, making our firewood a truly sustainable product.
